Yahoo! Widget on my desktop now!

It was Chap who started using it first, but I wasn’t very interested in it the first time he showed it to me on his desktop. (It seems that I’m never interested in any of his new find. Lol ^o^)

Recently my brother started using it, too; and his MSN Messenger nickname has changed to “try Yahoo! Widget - it’s cool” since then.

Still I didn’t intend to give it a try.

Then I saw a webpage about the Top 100 essential downloads on Digg. I found Yahoo! Widget on the list, and somehow I felt like spending some time trying out this little desktop thingy. Maybe it was because I was bored and got some time to kill, or …… I dun want my b/f and brother to feel that I’m an ignorant computer user when I’m studying computer sicence. Lol…just kidding!

Anyway, I tried it and now I like it. Let me show you some more screenshots.

You see Yoda and Darth Vader? They would speak! Wanna hear some sage advice from Yoda or feel the power of the darkside? You gotta have them on your desktop.

Besides Yoda and Darth Vader, there are also R2D2 and Chewbacca — well, not just characters from Star Wars, but there are also other characters like Bugs Bunny and Marvin The Martian.

Apart from having fun stuff on your desktop, there are also something very useful like weather report, calendar, clock, ToDo list and reminder.

There’s a whole bunch of different types of “time machines” for you to choose from the Widget gallery. Digital, analog, binary, Unix timestamp, stop watch, and countdown (to the release of a new movie or game or whatever). You name it, they have it.

It would be fun to know the number of seconds passed since January 1, 1970 eh?! I think so. Want more Unix stuff? They got a Man Page widget, too.

Wanna know how your computer’s doing? No Problem! There are widgets to tell you the performace of your CPU and memory usage of your computer.

Committed to the stock market? Currency exchange rate? Bond? Gold? Oil? No Problem!

Want some small games to kill time? No Problem! I downloaded Tic-Tac-Toe, Rock Paper Scissors and MasterMind. Tic Tac Toe is okay, but Rock Paper Scissors…. nah… Of course, there are other more “advanced” games.

Oh oh oh! There are pianos, too; but they suck.

There are really a lot of different widgets in the Widget gallery. I dun think it’s possible for me to cover them all. Check them out yourself. I’m sure that you can find something that you like there.

Okay! The last widget I want to mention here… final but not least guys… Gotta GO!. It’s fun, mischievous and useful! Check it out.

P.S.

Yahoo! Widget was not started by Yahoo!. Yahoo! bought it about half a year ago. The only drawback of the whole thing is the website. There’s nothing called Most Popular Download or The Highest-Rate Widget. Searching is bad, too.

I once searched for Darth Vader and Vader on the site, but the Darth Vader widget that I’m using was not shown in the search result. The reason? The widget is called Vaderspeak, and the description calls Darth Vader the Dark Lord. Who’s fault is it? Or should I searched for Star Wars?

Anyway, Yahoo! Widget is really worth a try. =) If not, why would I write a whole page about it?
