Miss Shuffle and Mister No-Screen

Steph's iPod Shuffle and its piggy home

Apple introduced the iPod shuffle in early 2005. Since my old MD was broken and I had told Chap earlier that I loved the look and feel of a USB stick —- (like it sleek and simple), Chap immediately ordered a 1GB shuffle for me when it came out, thinking that it would make a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift.

Well, I like it. I like it small and light because I dun want to make my already-very-big bag to be even bigger. However, I never seem to really love it. As a matter of fact, (Shush!) I don’t use it very often. Ironically, the alleged special feature of this iPod SHUFFLE is the main reason.

The first time I used my shuffle, I fed it with a Gigabyte-ful of MP3’s including a few soundtracks; so what was the outcome when this shuffle feature kicked in and allied with Mr. No-screen?

I didn’t know what the heck I was listening to!

Maybe it’s just me. I dun like listening to soundtracks randomly, especially when it was the first time I listen to them.

Anyway, now my shuffle is always in “sequential” mode; but even so, I still find myself being deprived of the privilege of choosing what I want to listen.

Happy songs, sad songs, fast songs, slow songs, English songs, Chinese songs all have their own moments. I need different kinds of music at different time; but it was never easy to find a match with the iPod shuffle.

In addition, the shuffle has became a really “cheap” MP3 player. The 500MB-iPod shuffle is always given as a free gift if you join a club, switch your bank, or successfully apply for a visa card.

When Chap bought my shuffle, it costed him Cad$200.

I can’t wonder more why everything I got always ended up as something super common and “cheap”. Another example is my Motorola V3. My friend got it for Cad$40 (no contract). I bought it a tiny bit earlier in Hong Kong and it costed me HK$2800 (around CAD$400).

I thought when I bought my V3 in HK that it would be a special cell phone to carry around in Canada, but now everyone I see on the subway is using the same phone.

Well well well, what else should I say besides telling everyone how unlucky I am.
