Lower Firefox’s Ram Usage With This Simple Hack

Firefox logo

  1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
  2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
  3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.
  4. Now select True and then press Enter.
  5. Restart Firefox.

Note: This is by no means a REAL fix for the Firefox memory leak, but it does appear to help it quite a bit. What it does is move Firefox to your hard drive when you minimize it, and as a result it will take up less than 10MB of memory while minimized.

Why surf the web alone?

Peekko chatFound on listible when browsing through the list of web 2.0 products and services, “Peekko chat is a Firefox extension that allows you to chat with other people looking at the same web site(s) as you. It adds a toolbar to Firefox that shows how many people are in that page’s chat room and allows you to instantly connect with them.”

I think it’s fun, and I just installed this Firefox extention. Yay! Not sure how useful it is to me, though; probably I won’t use it very often; but it won’t hurt to try out new thing, right? Maybe I’ll bum into you on some porn sites. Lol … nah! Porn is not for me. I’m a good girl — beautiful and smart.

P.S.

Is Peekko a cousin of meebo? They have very similar names eh?! Both are cute names.

Chap talked about meebo long time ago on his blog. I saw him use it, and the interface is cute, I think. :)

Spell with Flickr

Found this little online app on Digg. It will take what you typed in and fetch pictures from Flickr for each letter.

Here’s what I want to say:

Yahoo! Widget on my desktop now!

YahooWidget_screenshot01.jpg

It was Chap who started using it first, but I wasn’t very interested in it the first time he showed it to me on his desktop. (It seems that I’m never interested in any of his new find. Lol ^o^)

Recently my brother started using it, too; and his MSN Messenger nickname has changed to “try Yahoo! Widget - it’s cool” since then.

Still I didn’t intend to give it a try.

Then I saw a webpage about the Top 100 essential downloads on Digg. I found Yahoo! Widget on the list, and somehow I felt like spending some time trying out this little desktop thingy. Maybe it was because I was bored and got some time to kill, or …… I dun want my b/f and brother to feel that I’m an ignorant computer user when I’m studying computer sicence. Lol…just kidding!

Anyway, I tried it and now I like it. Let me show you some more screenshots.

You see Yoda and Darth Vader? They would speak! Wanna hear some sage advice from Yoda or feel the power of the darkside? You gotta have them on your desktop.

Besides Yoda and Darth Vader, there are also R2D2 and Chewbacca — well, not just characters from Star Wars, but there are also other characters like Bugs Bunny and Marvin The Martian.

Apart from having fun stuff on your desktop, there are also something very useful like weather report, calendar, clock, ToDo list and reminder.

There’s a whole bunch of different types of “time machines” for you to choose from the Widget gallery. Digital, analog, binary, Unix timestamp, stop watch, and countdown (to the release of a new movie or game or whatever). You name it, they have it.

It would be fun to know the number of seconds passed since January 1, 1970 eh?! I think so. Want more Unix stuff? They got a Man Page widget, too.

Wanna know how your computer’s doing? No Problem! There are widgets to tell you the performace of your CPU and memory usage of your computer.

Committed to the stock market? Currency exchange rate? Bond? Gold? Oil? No Problem!

Want some small games to kill time? No Problem! I downloaded Tic-Tac-Toe, Rock Paper Scissors and MasterMind. Tic Tac Toe is okay, but Rock Paper Scissors…. nah… Of course, there are other more “advanced” games.

Oh oh oh! There are pianos, too; but they suck.

There are really a lot of different widgets in the Widget gallery. I dun think it’s possible for me to cover them all. Check them out yourself. I’m sure that you can find something that you like there.

Okay! The last widget I want to mention here… final but not least guys… Gotta GO!. It’s fun, mischievous and useful! Check it out.

P.S.

Yahoo! Widget was not started by Yahoo!. Yahoo! bought it about half a year ago. The only drawback of the whole thing is the website. There’s nothing called Most Popular Download or The Highest-Rate Widget. Searching is bad, too.

I once searched for Darth Vader and Vader on the site, but the Darth Vader widget that I’m using was not shown in the search result. The reason? The widget is called Vaderspeak, and the description calls Darth Vader the Dark Lord. Who’s fault is it? Or should I searched for Star Wars?

Anyway, Yahoo! Widget is really worth a try. =) If not, why would I write a whole page about it?

The one who started it up.

I guess this is my first post in Chinese. Well, not exactly coz those in Chinese are not my work. They are lyrics…again… yes~ I’m obsessed with lyrics these days. Actually, I used to be. I once wanted to be a lyrics writer, but I knew that was not possible coz my English was bad and my Chinese was not good, either.

That was just a temporary dream.

My very first online diary was in Chinese, but then I gave it up because I didn’t know how to type Chinese characters on a computer. I could only write everything on paper and then asked Chap to type it up for me; but as you may know, it was not possible to get Chap to have the typing done in a short time. Therefore, there was always a huge delay of my postings — to a point that my diary site went into a deep sleep.

I didn’t really plan to have another online “diary? after that one. It was a time-consuming activity, and I thought I should spend more time on other stuff than writing up my own stupid thoughts.

However, at the end of last summer, somehow I felt like writing again. Guess it was because I was bothered by something and I needed a way to express my feelings.

There are things that I would only do when something bad happen.

I would do something that I normally wouldn’t do when things were going well.

Anyway, this explains how this MSN Space started.

I do realize a bunch of limitations of MSN Space, and Chap has been trying to convince me to switch to Wordpress. Yes, I finally got an account at wordpress.com, but web-based Wordpress isn’t as powerful as its parent—wordpress (the program for blog).

The drawback of the wordpress program is that you need a place to host your blog. I dun have one, so it was not yet an option for me.

Plus I didn’t plan to spend much time on blogging when I first started my MSN Space. I just wanted a place to voice my thoughts. That was it. I didn’t need fancy stuff….plain text would be fine; but of course, people get greedy in time, and more is better at a certain extent.

For example, I’d love a more powerful Windows Media Player on my MSN Space. I want one that can let me play more than one songs and that people can choose from a list what you want to listen. Chap has something similar to what I want, but I doubt if there’s way to do it on MSN Space.

Anyway, it’s fun to blog. I love it, but I need some self-control on how much time I should spend on it.

Hey! Let me ask you a question. Do you prefer something more technical or something more sentimental here? Sentimental eh? (I guess)…… coz I’m actually not quite knowledgeable in those stuff as most guys do. I’d love to be geekier in the computer science field, but I know I can never be. So far I’ve only met one gal whose interests are like a guy’s. She loved to play Diablo, and she had three computers in her room. (Hey Ming! I miss you!!!)

Well, I guess that’s enough BS for today.

The song I want to bring you today is a Chinese one by Leo Koo called 心跳回憶.

I haven’t listened to any Chinese songs for a long time. I’m more inclined to something else recently; but I guess I should make myself listen to more Chinese songs as I want to go to karaoke during my X’mas holiday.

Well, back to the song. It’s a sad one with a sad story.

Here’s the part that I want to share with you.
無論事隔多年我也心跳
最後和你雖如我那所料
先挑引我的人愛得比我少
然後見?更少
…………………………………
彷彿我的心 如?見了
然而懷念當日你我這段傻事
…………………………………

Isn’t it sad that the one who started everything up ended up not loving you as much as it seemed?

Isn’t it cruel? Isn’t it sarcastic?
I think so; but even though I was a victim, I did do the same thing to someone else.

I guess we’re all selfish.
